Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including arms control the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively together with President Reagan to meetings alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
